Hi I’m Genece (pronounced jen-eese)! I am an marine biologist, scientific diver, and divemaster who is passionate about ocean conservation and community-driven research.
My previous work in marine science has focused on biological oceanography, animal husbandry, phycology, and invertebrate physiology. In the future, I aim to further my education through an advanced degree centered around tropical ecology and the impacts of human activity on these ecosystems.
I recently completed my year as the 2023 North American Our World-Underwater Scholar where I was pursuing opportunities focused on shark conservation, advanced dive training, and collaboration with ocean advocates and coastal communities around the world.
Currently, I am working as a Junior Specialist at the Bodega Marine Laboratory for the White Abalone Culture Lab focusing on restoring populations of the critically endangered white abalone, Haliotis sorenseni, a species culturally and ecologically important to the California coast.
I am always happy to connect about diving, research, or navigating life as a first-gen scientist. Please feel free to reach out!
